UPPER EAST SIDE—The Slow Food Miami conference featured a buffet by Red Light's Kris Wessel and various epiphanies like "It's really important for the Scarpetta's of the world to buy local when they come down here." [MNT]
SOUTH BEACH—The long awaited new Publix at 5th & Alton has opened today with lots of freebies, fanfare and freeloaders. That makes this the third such supermarket within the radius of a few blocks. This one will cater to the residents of the South of Fifth area who now have yet another reason not to leave their pristine 'hood. But shop at your own risk: there are only two small elevators to the upper parking levels and they can only fit about two shopping carts. Worst part about the market so far is the very treacherous parking lot. There's no street parking so you have to park in the scary, narrow lot. If you live close, just walk because, as far as we know, there are no coupons for collisions.
