Status: Opening tomorrow in the South of Fifth space formerly known as Tuscan Steak, El Scorpion Mexican Kitchen + Tequila Bar is the latest offering from Turntable Restaurant Group, owners of Maxim Prime Steakhouse in Atlanta and troika of China Grill emperor Jeffrey Chodorow, his son Zach and Dan Smith. Owen Kamihira, who has designed restaurants for Stephen Starr as well as the late Red Square Miami, and owner of Philly's Bar Ferdinand and El Camino Real did the decor. Although it's not part of his father's original empire, El Scorpion is said to be Junior Chodorow's baby. That said, the younger Chodorow will not be on hand for the opening, traveling in Spain with, well, the China Grill Management team. As much as it is his latest shot at following in his daddy's footsteps, El Scorpion is your shot too, featuring over 100 pure blue agave tequilas and a cocktail menu designed by Christian Sanders, who was named by Bombay Sapphire and GQ as America's "next bartending hero."
