As the cold snap threatens produce, perhaps it's time to consider a trip to the Roots in the City Farmers Market, open for biz Wednesday, December 8 at noon. Located in Overtown at the corner of Northwest Second Avenue and Tenth Street, the market--the only wholly local farmer-operated market in Miami and the first urban farmer’s market in Florida to double the value of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits (also known as food stamps) towards the purchase of locally-grown produce--will be open to the public every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. through May '11. And thanks to an anonymous commenter for a tip on this one: Also check out new, mostly local/organic Liberty City Farmers' Market on Thursdays.[EaterWire]
