The One SBWFF Event You Can't Get Into

New, 1 comment

It doesn't matter if you're bff with Lee Schrager, Bobby Flay, Guy Fieri's hair dresser, or even the security guy at the door. If you're not a chef, you are not getting into the uber exclusive AmEx After Party Friday night at The Tides Hotel. Says one insider: "It's strictly for chefs only. No media." And don't even think of crashing. We asked Schrager what happens to crashers of this party to which he replied, "The same thing that happened to the crashers at the White House." In other words, a scarlet letter C, an appearance on Larry King Live, and a potential role on a reality show! Last year's party took place on the Gansevoort South rooftop and the year before it was in the Raleigh penthouse. As for the sordid activities that go on at these private events, we can only hope everyone's guilty of drunk Tweeting.

In the meantime, we spoke with Gonzalo Rivera, executive chef of La Marea at The Tides, who tells us he's making four chili intensive canapes for the chef-crew. Among them: street fair-inspired baby corn with ancho chili aioili, ceviche with whole hamachi on top of compressed watermelon, foie gras mousse with mango jalapeno compote and a ginger snap crumble. Rivera's most excited to cook for Daniel Boulud because, well, he's "Phenomenal," he says. "But I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. I'm a little nervous because it's a lot of chefs, celebs and top notch people. It's going to be a very late night here with great drinks and exotic ingredients." And, after enough of those drinks, maybe a round or two of Punch Your Lights Out with gameshow host Fieri. We can only hope. [EaterWire]
