Status: Opening on Monday, March 29, Sawa Restaurant & Lounge is the latest from Rami Zahr whose C'est Bon cafe is located on the mall's second floor. The street-level Sawa will serve the Mediterranean cuisine of executive chef Jouvens Jean, formerly of Atrio and Solea. Oh, and "by popular demand," according to the press release, sushi, too. “I love Mediterranean flavors and was certain about that concept, but decided to add the sushi element for the mall employees and Merrick Park guests who have been begging for sushi for years,” said Zahr. Among the other menu highlights: spreads including tzatziki, eggplant and whipped caviar, salads, kebabs, and moussaka. To cap off the meal, diners can enjoy the services of a hookah--lounge, featuring all sorts of tobaccos and booze such as the Hookah on Steroids, premium tobacco blend with booze in the bong--er, vase, instead of water. So much for that healthy Mediterranean fare. As for prices, kebabs range from $14 to $20 or $49 for all six, entrees $14-$27, and sushi (!) $13-$15 for bento boxes. Lunch and dinner. [EaterWire]
