Status: Now up and running is Bistro Urbano (no relation to the nearby Barú Urbano, but, after all, the Brickell area is a Neighborhood Urbano), the restaurant in the new Hotel Urbano, the arty, 65-room boutique hotel version of today's young Hollywood starlets: Breaking News: Ugly duckling Hampton Inn nipped and tucked into a hipster haute spot! But it's more than just a looker and not nearly as artificial thanks to Executive Chef Anthony Velazquez, formerly of The Setai, Alex at Wynn Las Vegas and Simon Kitchen and Bar Las Vegas, among others. Velazquez brings to the table "seasonally influenced menus fusing South Florida and Latin American cuisine," with signature dishes including tomato gazpacho with an avocado mousse and rum glazed grouper with sautéed arugula and pan roasted gingered pumpkin. Unique comfort food, they say. Says Velazquez, "simple and down to earth, yet with a sophisticated blend of culinary excellence." And with that, we immediately rescind the Hollywood starlet analogy.
