Status: Opened last Monday, downtown's nifty new Sandwich Bar Cafe features gourmet, artfully presented sandwiches, salads and the city's only bona fide Hawaiian shaved ice. There are two chefs, both named Leo, both from Argentina. One was a sous chef at Sardinia, the other at the Ritz-Carlton, Key Biscayne. And apparently they build sandwiches like craftsmen. Sandwiches include The Sandwich Bar: braised short ribs, caramelized onions, munster and provolone cheeses; Como en Cuba: Braised pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard; and Mortadella and Munster: Mortadella, munster cheese, lettuce, fresh tomatoes, house-made mayonnaise. Salads range from Caprese and Panzanella to Ceasar, Rucola and Mista. And then there's that shaved ice. Not your average Sno-Cone, the Hawaiian and Japanese confection craze comes to downtown via one of Miami's six resident Hawaiians. The stuff is completely genuine and comes in all sorts of flavors including, of course, coffee/dulce de leche. There's also Wi-Fi and sports on the TV. Delivery to the downtown area, too. Sandwich Bar Cafe is kinda hard to find right now, with just a small, hand-painted sign dangling from the wooden awning. Menu, we're told, is a work in progress. Click here for a preview.[EaterWire}
