Getting a head start on October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities are the Fontainebleau and Waxy O'Connor's, each throwing an event this week to benefit the cause. Taking place at La Cote at the Fontainebleau Wednesday, September 22 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. is Bleau Goes Pink, a launch party for the resort's month-long campaign featuring three-course, $39 prix fixe menus at Gotham Steak, Scarpetta and Hakkasan, with a portion of the proceeds going to the local Susan G. Komen for the Cure Miami/Fort Lauderdale affiliate. The launch party costs $25 and will feature food, cocktails and women and men from the South Florida Firefighter calendar. For a $10 donation, the Miami River location of Waxy O'Connor's is throwing a Paint the Town Pink fundraiser and social event on Thursday, September 23 from 6:00-10:00 p.m. featuring specialty pink cocktails and passed hors d'oeuvres.
