Status: Just when you thought there was a bit of a lull in the Miami burger overload comes Lokal Beer & Burger, which, according to its Facebook page will feature--yep, "Delicious Burgers & Beers coming to the heart of Coconut Grove soon! Locally sourced ingredients from the beautiful Sunshine State." Website isn't registered yet, but we guess it will be soon, so click here to keep checking. As for the name, we guess it's a play on that other ubiquitous food word, "local," because when it comes to burgers and beer, it certainly can't mean low-cal. Or can it? Not quite.
Update: a press release has schooled us on the name, which is "stemming from the German word for restaurant and meeting place." The owner, Matthew Kuscher, who spent 11 years at Houston's, plans to include some of his Puerto Rican heritage into the menu, which will include his own version of a frita: a pressed burger schmeared with guava jelly, melted gruyere and chopped French fries. The restaurant will also have a retail section with local jams, jellies, honey, t-shirts (!) and wines. [EaterWire]
