Status: It's new beginnings for Chef Allen Susser, who, along with Tom Prakas, Lee and George Heaton, has opened Burger Bar in Palm Beach Gardens this week. After shutering his 25 year Miami mainstay in April, Chef Allen focused his attention on establishing a gourmet burger concept at various Florida locations, starting with the prototype located in Donald Ross Village. Unlike anything on Donald Ross, the restaurant, designed by Sterling Kenan, who also is responsible for Palm Beach's Buccan, features both large indoor and outdoor bars, a large black chalkboard menu offset by red booths and a dividing wall of meat grinders. To complement the beautiful interior, Chef Allen has designed a menu showcasing 15 varieties of burgers accommodated by an array of smaller dishes. A few of the favorite burgers: The (Hot, Delicious) Mess, with aged cheddar, house pickled jalapenos, bacon and Chef Allen's Orange-Chipotle Blasting Sauce, The Greek, a lamb burger with cucumber and housemade tzatziki, and The Blue Sky Buffalo Burger, custom ground Buffalo, applewood smoked bacon, and Maytag blue cheese. And if you're dining with deep pockets, ask for the $25 Gold Leaf Burger, a custom blend burger topped with edible 23 carat gold. Susser also has after dinner covered with numerous desserts as well as the adult shakes - Vanilla Vodka Ginger Snap, Chocolate Black Russian, Nutella Bourbon, Brandy Alexander Split. Up next for Chef Allen: Burger Bar Vero Beach in spring 2012. ---Matt Tylka [EaterWire]
