Ode to SE Asia at Lantao Kitchen + Cocktails

Status: Billing itself as an "ode to Southeast Asian cuisine," Lantao Kitchen + Cocktails at Kimpton's newly acquired Surfcomber Hotel features the cuisine of China Grill and Asia de Cuba expat Freddy Ortiz. Menu is divided into four categories: Gansig (Snacks), Shala (Salads), Bo ling (Bowls), and Zhuban (Main Plates). Signature dishes include Banh Mi “Miami” style with beef, pork belly, pickled vegetables, cilantro and spicy mayo on a baguette; Green Papaya and Pork Belly Salad with jicama, celery root, daikon, carrots, chayote, mint and Thai Basil; Madurese Street Noodles in Spicy Coconut Broth with chicken, shrimp, mushrooms, water chestnuts and crispy shallots; Singapore Chili Prawns and Crispy Kale with spicy Singapore crushed chili sauce, toasted sesame seeds and scallions; and Crisp Citrus and Thai Basil Marinated Whole Fish with sweet-tart Sambal sauce. And opening within the hotel at the end of the month, Lantao Social Club, a bar featuring funky cocktails (Tru Balance with Tru Vodka, Kambucha and Lambic Framboise, Flying Dutch Boat with Hendricks Gin, Cardamom Vermouth and Orange Bitters and Hilltop Buddha with Hanger One Kafir Lime, Lemon and Crème de Mure) and hipster street fare including Wok Fried Anchovies with hot and sour sauce, Duck Crepes with Asian duck confit, Szechuan crepes and tomato-mint slaw and the signature Vietnamese Crab Spring Rolls with lump crab, cabbage, mushrooms, carrots, scallions and ginger-miso sauce.
