prohibition_ends.jpgCelebrating the end of Prohibition, which happened with the repeal of the 18th Amendment via the 21st Amendment on December 5, 1933, Yardbird Southern Table + Bar has reached into the archives and shaken up a cocktail hailing back to 1916. Bar manager Joshua Holliday has tweaked it a bit, but the Lavender Hughes--named after Howard--will be available all weekend and made bourbon instead of gin, yuzu instead of lemon, and lavender buds. A twist on the classic drink known as the Aviation, whose original recipe appeared in Hugo Ensslin's cocktail guide, Recipes for Mixed Drinks, in 1916. Another difference is that the cocktail costs $14 whereas back then it would have set you back just cents. [EaterWire]
