Status: Energy Kitchen, a New York-based health-oriented restaurant chain, is charging into South Florida with its first restaurant here on August 12 at the Suniland Plaza in Pinecrest. Founded in New York in 2003, the place bills itself as having a menu where nothing is more than 500 calories. Everything is grilled, baked or steamed and prepared fresh every day.
For breakfast, only egg whites are used in the sandwiches and wraps. Burgers are prepared with ostrich, bison, turkey and chicken. There’s also chicken and salmon on the menu. Don’t look for a fudge brownie or cheesecake here, though there is a 242-calorie protein brownie. The price point is about $12. While it’s the first South Florida, it’s not expected to be the last. The franchisee, Miamian Justo Luis Pozo III, plans six more in the next four years.---Lily Rano [EaterWire]
