And so begins the Asian wave on Clematis with the opening of Kabuki, the first of 3 Asian restaurants, along with Fuku and Palm Sugar, scheduled to open in downtown West Palm Beach. Kabuki, which takes over the long and narrow space previously occupied by Mambo Italiano, opens with a menu typical in pan-Asian cuisine: gigantic. Claiming "eclectic cuisines from Japan and Thailand", Kabuki emphasizes meals orchestrated through their extremely global and curiously named "tapas" selection, highlighted by an empanada, an oyster shooter, a carpaccio, and a ceviche among your standard tempuras, satays, and spring rolls. If you'd rather not dine around their world, a large variety of sushi rolls, including a puzzling PB&J roll, and plenty of other Asian specialties - drunken noodles, massaman curry, lobster terriyaki - are served. And most importantly, when it comes to booze Kabuki sticks to their roots through an extensive sake list and signature drinks such as the lycheetini and a wasabi martini. --Matt Tylka [EaterWire]
