American Burger is Officially Closed

New, 8 comments

The past month has been tough for 8 oz. Burger Bar, with first the skeptical name change to American Burger, then the announcement that they were closing and no longer associated with the location on 10 and Alton Road, and then the arraignment of former co-owner Joshua Woodward for murder in LA. And now, after a couple days of closed doors at the "new" American Burger, it looks like it has nothing to do with the flooding on Alton but the restaurant is in fact shuttering for good. Owner Eric Fried, who was also part of the 8 oz. team before the change over, told Eater,

"American Burger is now closed. That would be a very accurate statement."
As of yesterday, November 1, there was a final notice from the deputy tax collector with $128.50 owed under the 8oz. name. They've removed the temporary signage that went up for American Burger and there's a sign that says "For Rent" with a phone number. 8 oz. is expected to open another South Beach location in the former Kim's Chinese on Lincoln Road next year. No word yet on what's to come of American Burger. Stay tuned.
