Chef Steve Matkovich, who worked under Jeremy Fox at Ubuntu, and under Thomas Keller at Bouchon in Napa, is on the way down to open Three Sisters Farm, an organic farm and restaurant in Homestead, expected to debut in October. Said farm, a five acre sustainable organic one, was for sale for $1 million and is now co-owned by chef Jonathan Gambino, formerly of Pure Food & Wine in NY and So Flo's Sublime & Om Garden. Here's the listing. Matkovich is a busy dude, joining LA's Ari Taymor in the kitchen of Alma, his Silver Lake pop-up on April 6 and 7, for a nine course dinner priced at $140 a head.
This isn't the first we've heard of dinners on this farm. Short Order blogged about a preview dinner back in January. This is, however, the first we're hearing about Matkovich's involvement teaming up with culinary school pal. "The restaurant will showcase what we grow and produce on the farm (which will be 98% of what is served, including flour, sugar, and honey) through tasting menus and a more casual tropical lounge area," Matkovich says. "We will also be brewing our own beers. The menu will be a very similar style to Ubuntu of Napa Valley which showcases vegetables from their garden, but with more Caribbean flavors." Stay tuned for more information. [EaterWire]
