Fuku Denied Trademark for 'Scandalous' Name

Upcoming West Palm Beach restaurant Fuku has been denied a trademark by the Florida Department of State Divisions of Corporations. Why? Because their restaurant name looks like it says "Fuck You." The owners say the meaning of the restaurant's name comes from the Japanese word for prosperity or good fortune, and their attorney says the denial was based on a "puritanical viewpoint." Meanwhile the denial letter cited the name's "immoral, deceptive or scandalous matter."

They get to keep calling the restaurant Fuku, so all in all this is probably just good marketing on their part. Click over here to watch a local news team get through an entire segment on Fuku without accidentally saying the word "fuck."
