Status: Sam Gorenstein is a very low key chef, which is why his 240-square foot South of Fifth youth hostel hideaway My Ceviche opened very softly, as they say, and very quietly. But not for long. Gorenstein and his partner, Roger Duarte, founder and president of the thriving stone crab delivery service George Stone Crab, previewed their selection of an intimate seafood takeaway and delivery counter, serving a handful of ultra-fresh stone crabs, tacos, burritos, salads and of course, ceviches, during Sony Ericcson and are now doing takeaway and delivery from its SoFi HQ. The seafood here is allegedly less than 24 hours off the boat. Both Gorenstein and Duarte have excellent connections, you know.
Ceviches, priced at $11.75 to $14.95 include Aji Amarillo with Florida citrus, aji amarillo pepper, tomato and jalapeño and Asian with soy-citrus juice, ginger, red onion, tomato, mango and cilantro, among others. Tacos, $3.50 for one, $9.95 for three, include grilled local fish, charred octopus, grilled shrimp or raw yellowfin tuna. Sides sound particularly stellar: charred corn on the cob with queso fresco, crispy plantains, sweet potatoes with lime, spicy guacamole and chips, coconut-Jasmine rice with cilantro, crispy corn chips, creamy BBQ corn with queso fresco, and crispy hash browns with mustard sauce. They have Mexican Coke and Fanta, too. Open Monday through Thursday, from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Friday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. till midnight. Delivery is on South Beach only, from 1st street to 40th street, including the sand and along the Venetian Causeway. [EaterWire]
