South Street Restaurant & Bar to Open in Former Sra. Martinez Space

In the heart of the Design District, the space that formerly occupied Sra. Martinez is now spoken for. According to Short Order, the replacement will be South Street Restaurant & Bar, the newest from Amir Ben-Zion of Gigi, Bardot, and soon-to-open Cooper Avenue. The concept is for a Motown-inspired restaurant and lounge, with live music and DJs playing Otis Redding-esque tunes. The kitchen will serve "neo-soul" food among classic favorites like fried chicken, grandma's cornbread muffins and shrimp & grits. In addition, South Street is bringing in Bar Lab, the creative minds behind The Broken Shaker, to design the cocktail menu. Luckily the wait won't be too long for this one; South Street is aiming for a late September opening (but check their Facebook page for updates).
