This week the first Miami location of NYC 's Brother Jimmy's BBQ opened up shop in Brickell's Mary Brickell Village. Originally started in 1989, the concept was to have a gathering place for college alumni from schools like UNC, UVA, Duke, Clemson, who were homesick for southern cooking and hospitality. Now 20 years later, Brother Jimmy's has grown into a brand with locations all over NYC, its own line of sauces to take home, and a favorite spot for bar-goers at night. The Miami outpost, opened by four UM alumni, brings all that Brother Jimmy's is known for to South Florida with signature dishes like North Carolina pulled pork and grilled, fried, or blackened catfish. They're open until 4 a.m. nightly, pouring brews and cocktails like their signature "Swamp Water" that's served in a 64-ounce fishbowl.
