All the latest neighborhood and real estate news from Curbed Miami...
PINECREST - Surely the biggest news since sliced bread, Trader Joe's is coming to a former Border's Bookstore space in Pinecrest, across the street from the Dadeland South Metrorail Station. Curbed broke the story, which was then confirmed by TJ's PR peeps, earlier this week.
SUNRISE - Norman Cantor, a developer with a vision, or a loose screw, wants to build the world's largest winter sports complex in Sunrise. Pelion Sunrise is basically a big, indoor ski resort across the street from Sawgrass Mills mall, and it sounds totally rad, bro. As if that weren't enough, the iceberg-shaped colossus will be designed to be extremely sustainable, despite Florida's balmy hot weather, with a goal of achieving a LEED platinum rating. Don't eat the snow. It'll be made out of reused water from the showers and sinks in the hotel upstairs.
COCONUT GROVE - The freshly redone Mayfair Hotel & Spa reopens today. Don't worry, from what we've heard the hotel hasn't lost any of its iconic charm, or its great design, by the just-as-iconic, old school Miami architect Kenneth Treister. The rehab, which was a very light touch, brings new life into this mainstay of a Grove hotel, which just might have its groove back.
