Lawsuit

scottys_445.jpgCoconut Grove's popular marina-restaurant Scotty's Landing is suing Miami-Dade County tax collector Fernando Casamayor who is threatening to shut the place down if they don't pay back $2.5 million in taxes. At the time the lease was signed for Grove Key Marina and Scotty's, "state law exempted businesses on municipal land from paying property taxes," and while the law has changed, nothing was ever written into the lease to reflect it. But Casamayor is charging them for taxes dating back to '95, threatening to revoke their licenses if they don't cut him a check. [MH]
