Starting tomorrow morning, Lee & Marie's Cakery will be open and ready to serve you coffee and your favorite sweet treat. The duo behind the do-gooder concept, pastry chef Yannis Janssens (one of Dessert Professional magazine's Top Ten Pastry Chefs of 2010) and Andrea "Andy" Travaglia, is excited to open a shop that gives back to the community in a bigger way than just satisfying stomachs. Local sourcing of quality ingredients is first and foremost, with coffee coming from Wynwood's shop Panther Coffee and dairy and produce coming from nearby farms like Myakka's Dakin Farms and Paradise Farms. Also supporting a cause Travaglia is passionate about, Lee & Marie's employs adults with autism to help "guide them on a path to greater independence and an enhanced quality of life." Janssens will put a spin on classic pastries with creations like the American Éclair collection with unique fillings like Heath bar fudge and caramel cheesecake popcorn in addition to a new take on cupcakes, "Cup Cones", with mini-cupcakes served in small ice cream cones. For some savory with your sweets, the cakery will also serve salads and sandwiches for lunch with fresh, local ingredients in items like the chicken curry salad on ciabatta.
