Mark Iacono, owner of New York's big time pizzeria, Lucali, will be coming down to Miami this weekend to scout out the possibility of bringing us some legit pies. The Carroll Gardens pizzeria has fans like Jay-Z and Beyonce among the rest of the city's denizens, with Gothamist calling it "the best pizza in NYC." Iacono tells Gothamist:
"I'm going down to Miami to open a new restaurant."He also adds that he's looking to do a part pizzeria, part Italian restaurant type of thing at a "converted warehouse in South Beach." The ever-perfectionist says it could be a 10 day trip, or he could come back after one day if he doesn't find what he's looking for. Not sure where he'll find a converted warehouse on the beach, as that seems to be more of Wynwood's thing, but we'll see.
UPDATE: According to a tipster in the comments, "Lucali is moving into a converted warehouse next to Barceloneta in Sunset Harbour. The space is already built out and the restaurant should be opening in the next couple of weeks."
