The Schwartz force is upon us as empire-builder Michael Schwartz of Michael's Genuine Food & Drink and Harry's Pizzeria has just announced who he'll be making head chef at his upcoming restaurant. A highly anticipated opening for 2013, The Cypress Room will be joining Schwartz's other two in his Design District takeover, with Roel Alcudia running the kitchen. Alcudia comes from New York, where he was chef de cuisine at Jonathan Waxman's restaurant in the Meatpacking district, Barbuto. It seems Alcudia moved to Miami last month, and The Cypress Room is slated to open sometime "early this year." Schwartz also has his project at The Raleigh in the works, which was bought in early January for $55 million by W South Beach's David Edelstein and Sam Nazarian of the SLS Hotel's sbe Group. The renovations are expected to last from April to November, with the restaurant partnership still honored.
