Clive's Cafe to Close After 38 Years

New, 2 comments

Clive's Café, the "Jamaican lunch spot" that opened in Wynwood when it was still just a "budding neighborhood", will be closing on March 30. Owner Pearline Murray tells Short Order that closing wasn't even "by choice". Apparently, the Wynwood area has become such a "hipster" destination, that the 38-year old Clive's Café doesn't cut it for the owners of the building it's located in.

Our lease was up last year. When we asked for a renewal, our landlord said they are going to remodel the building and bring it up to code with other stuff in the area.

Plans are for Murray and her sister and partner, Gloria Chin, to "merge with Clive's Café II, the restaurant's second outpost" in Little Haiti. Murray says they've had "good days" at the restaurant and that she's "not mad" at the landlord.
