Evan Benn gives three stars to the Pubelly trio's South Miami restaurant, Barceloneta Sunset. Benn writes, "This is where you want to eat tonight, and where you'll be talking about tomorrow" and adds, "No-reservations annoyances aside ? Barceloneta excels at delivering a tapas experience that's equal parts classic and modern". His list of "What Didn't Work" is short and includes things like "spicy tomato sauce that lacked heat" and "soggy fried potato cubes", but his "What Worked" list is extensive.
On that list is the chorizo flatbread with spiced pork he calls "hauntingly smoky", "ridiculously good baked eggs flamenco", "creamy, crispy and piping hot cod fritters" and "Spanish wines by the glass and bottle that represent a number of the country's top growing regions". Final verdict to his "can a Pubbelly concept play off the beach" question: "Yes".
