Now open for just over a month, Top Chef season five fan favorite Fabio Viviani's new Siena Tavern in South Beach's SoFi district has already become a neighborhood favorite. Early reviews for the restaurant are generally positive, and some are even calling it the best on South Beach. This is the second location of Siena Tavern for the DineAmic Group, which opened its doors last year in Chicago.
Not just another major South Beach production with flashy design and high prices, a good deal of research went into the making of the new restaurant, including a three week trip to Italy. In this new video which the restaurant released yesterday, watch as Viviani and his partners design the restaurant from scratch, taking care to tailor everything from the interiors to the menu to a Miami crowd, placing a major emphasis on local products and lighter fare.
"We don't by pasta. We buy eggs and flour, and we make it." From-scratch, local cooking may not be for everyone who drives a Lamborghini and loves lavish South Beach design, but for Viviani, it's a way of life he wasn't willing to forego.
