With a building certificate in hand, the brewery is now working on its first official brew.

For the owners of Wynwood's newest microbrewery, J. Wakefield Brewing, it appears that Christmas came early this year. In a Facebook post late last week, a picture showed a City of Miami Building Certificate with the caption, "It has been a very long road but we have reached the end." Just yesterday, the team posted that they were working on their inaugural brew, the Nothing Imperial Stout, a boozy Russian Imperial Stout, and would soon be announcing dates for the official soft and grand openings. Once open, the brewery will feature a tap room with various murals, including an apparently incredible Star Wars motif.

Some of Wakefield's 15-barrel brewing system was paid for by a Kickstarter-style campaign he held last year via Crowd Brewed, in which they raised over $100,000, more than double their goal. Check out their 80s-inspired campaign video below for a taste of what we can expect when the tap room opens. Since 2010, Wakefield has been winning over beer drinkers via tap takeovers, collaborations, and events. The brewery's opening will give Wakefield fanatics full-time access to his innovative brews.

December has already been a big month for the brewery. Earlier in the month, it was voted as a ‘Bucket List Brewery' by First We Feast, which said Wakefield's brews were "the best we tasted in Miami." Wakefield has been making waves for some time now with his Florida-infused Weisse style beers like featuring dragon and passion fruits, as well as his collaborative beers with Cigar City Brewing. Once open, we can expect even more experimental brews from Wakefield, including sours and seasonal brews.
