Michael Mina 74 continues to impress. After a three-and-a-half star review from Miami.com, Michael Mina's newest restaurant at Fontainebleau also receives compliments from Short Order's food critic Emily Codik. "If you've heard of Michael Mina, this success shouldn't come as a surprise," writes Codik adding that Michael Mina 74 is a "stunning blend of nightlife and cookery." As for specific dishes, she appreciates the Hamachi poppers, the beef tenderloin and the grilled quail with foie gras. When it comes to desserts, Codik opts for the panna cotta.
Passionfruit panna cotta might seem like a predictable choice, but at Michael Mina 74, it gets a subtle makeover. Poured in a thin layer into a wide bowl, the golden fruit custard rests beneath slivers of avocado, grapefruit, guava jelly, and coconut sorbet. Mina can rework something classic and then impress you with his thoughtfulness and restraint. And on price points, Codik writes that though there are "old-school extravagance" on the menu, "splurging is unnecessary here. You can order thrilling dishes without such lavishness."
