Brother Jimmy's BBQ has quietly opened up its new location at Sunset Shops, but they're celebrating in true Brother Jimmys fashion with an official opening this weekend. Owned by a trio of UM alumni, the New York-import, which opened its first Miami location in Brickell, where it garnered a following for its barbecued Southern-style dishes and playful atmosphere, will be offering much of the cuisine and atmosphere it's best known for. The South Miami locale will, like its Brickell counterpart, serve up authentic Southern cuisine, house-smoked items like ribs, chicken and brisket; and throw the same fun parties. Come Mother's Day, Brother Jimmys will also roll out a brunch menu that includes items like homemade monkey bread, blueberry pancakes and shrimp and grits.
Though their emphasis is on quality food, the new location isn't forgetting how to have a good time. Beginning Friday evening, they'll be celebrating the opening with a mechanical riding bull, fashion shows, line dancing performers and kid's line dancing lessons.
As for their upcoming Dolphin Mall location, it's slated for an early summer opening. There, plans are for the menu to differ a bit. To cater to the South Miami demographic, Brother Jimmy's chefs will take some of the cuisine in a Latin direction. New to the menu will be yucca fires, La Caja China roasted pigs, mojo ribs and wings and a churrasco steak served with black beans, rice and plantains.
