Those who missed Uncle Tom's Barbecue's smoked meats and barbecue dishes will be pleased to know that the restaurant is slated to re-open in May. After over 60 years in business, the Tamiami Trail restaurant temporarily shuttered back in September, after having been "deemed unsafe." Now, under the supervision of new owners it's making a comeback with a new menu, but staying true to its "original recipe for success," says a press release. As for the new owner, Ariel Rodriguez, he says, "I grew up eating at Uncle Tom's Barbecue," adding, "my family and I considered it an institution and when the opportunity arose to purchase the restaurant, we jumped at the chance to re-introduce that legacy."
