Porfirio's Opens First U.S. Restaurant in Miami Beach

Mexico City hotspot Porfirio's opens its doors to the public this Thursday, July 3. Located in Miami Beach's South of Fifth neighborhood, the restaurant's first U.S. location will offer high-end Mexican cuisine and a bevy of mezcal cocktails in a lofty dining space boasting 200 indoor seats and an outdoor terrace that seats up to 110. Design wise, think high cathedral-style ceilings — as pictured above — teardrop lighting suspended from a two-story ceiling above wraparound bar and dark wood tables. As for who's behind it, you might recognize the Mexican restaurant group, Grupo Anderson, as the team behind the Gables' once super popular Señor Frog's, which is set to make a comeback this year.

Hoping to make big strides in the near future, Grupo Anderson has several restaurant openings in the works including a Porfirio's Texas and Señor Frog's New York. They're also planning to bring another one of their concepts to Miami in 2014 called Harry's, but more on that later. Once Porfirio's officially opens Thursday, they'll be serving Monday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and way into the late hours from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Brunch is scheduled to roll out sometime in August.
