Behold Abaco, The Design District's Sleek New Wine Store and Tasting Room

The space was designed by the same architects who designed the Apple stores

Abaco Wines

The Design District's massive transformation is continuing. The latest addition to the area is Abaco Premium Wines, which opened quietly last week in the Palm Court. The wine store, owned and operated by Ben Disesa and Andy Barowsky, is part wine retail shop and part wine tasting room.

The swanky, high-tech wine mecca was designed by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson the same architects who designed the Apple store on NYC's Fifth Avenue. And in true Apple-like fashion, Abaco features iPads filled with knowledge of the wines the store sells, which varies from the well-known vintages to the up-and-coming varieties.

And since the store has a beer and wine license it also hosts wine tastings that can be booked through OpenTable. The wine tastings run around $50 a person, which includes three, three-ounce pours and a 45 minute class. Guests also have the option to add on things like cheese boards, chocolate pairings and harder-to-find wines to their tasting. The store is now open from Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
