Late last week, Miami's own Destiny Antommarchi from Johnson & Wales University in North Miami was crowned the winner of the 12th annual S.Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef Competition.
This competition was a rather intensive one kicking off in nearly three months ago in January. It featured students from 41 culinary schools from across the country in a series of five regional competitions.
The five finalists traveled to Napa Valley to face off in a three-day event that included a “mystery basket” and signature dish competition. Antommarchi competed against four other regional finalists, presenting her signature dish of Asian-inspired grouper.
As the 2015 S.Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef title holder, Antommarchi wins a one-year paid apprenticeship with a "renowned chef," that has yet to be named.
