Looks like another Top Chef alum is making his way down to Miami. This morning Spike Mendelsohn's team confirmed rumors that he is indeed opening a restaurant on Miami Beach later this year. Called Sunny's it is described as, "a casual courtyard eatery inspired by classic seaside cafes and beach bars from around the world."
The restaurant named after Mendelsohn's grandfather will feature an all-day menu inspired by, "beach cultures experienced by Spike throughout his travels." Expect casual dishes like grouper rubeuns and foccacia flatbreads along with, "selections that reflect Spike’s current inspirations, travels and cravings."
The restaurant will be housed inside the new hotel The Hall on 15th and Collins, the first East Coast hotel by San Francisco-based Joie de Vivre boutique hotels. In addition to Sunny's, Mendelsohn will also head up the The Hall's food and bar offerings.
No word on an official opening date, we are just told "late Summer 2015" for now. Stay tuned for more updates.
