Miami's Five Quintessential Fritas

Because we couldn't pick just one

It's no secret that one of Miami's best "cheap eats" is the frita. The Cuban dish, which traditionally features a thin, highly-seasoned beef and chorizo patty, topped with shoestring potatoes, a spicy ketchup-like sauce on a Cuban bread roll, is a true crowd pleaser to locals and non-locals alike. But which places serves the best frita in town is a debate that can divide people quickly — and you are going to get a lot of strong and passionate opinions.

Clearly, Miami takes these shreded beef and pork burgers very, very seriously. And since we couldn't decide on just one, in honor of Cheap Eats Week we rounded up five essential stops in town to satisfy your frita cravings and won't hurt your wallet.

El Mago De Las Fritas

It’s a little difficult to not think of this place when it comes to fritas Cubanas, for obvious reasons. For some Cuban comfort food in the heart of Miami stop by El Mago de las Fritas for its "Frita a Caballo," a frita with an fried egg on top. For under $3, you can't really go wrong here.

Sergio’s

Make no mistake, Sergio's isn’t just about its ropa veija and tostones. Its frita is also a popular dish on the menu. Come here for some beefy shredded deliciousness. Order the frita with a mamay drink and thank us later.

Fritas Domino

A quick and cheap fix to your frita cravings. Fritas Domino has locations on Calle Ocho and Hialeah where you can grab this mini-Cuban burger and relish in the greatness that is a frita.

Morro Castle

For that special, late night craving we all get on a Saturday night, Morro Castle will satisfy your hunger for under $4. The crunchy onions really make this frita stand out. Want a side of sweetness to your meal? Don’t forget to order the churros.

EL REY DE LAS FRITAS

We will try not to be bias here. El Rey’s fritas will just speak for themselves. Don’t believe the hype? Ask any Miamian where they can find their favorite frita. This is the OG spot for some great Fritas and cheap eats. Take a seat and soak in some Cuban culture while enjoying the juicy Frita with a side of Iron beer, duh.
