The Miami New Times confirms that a former District Miami chef and DJ are taking legal actions against the restaurant's owner for back pay reasons.
Chef Alexander Hernandez and DJ Camila Mora, known as DJ Camee, told the Miami New Times that may employees of the District weren't getting payed in the weeks leading up to its closure, including them.
Hernandez and Mora have both filed complaints with the U.S. Department of Labor and the Miami Dade County Small Claims Court, respectively. According to Mora's claim, her paycheck had been delayed ($2500) because of "unforeseen financial issues" on The District's part.
After nearly two years of operation The District Miami closed its doors this month. The Design District concept originally by chef Horacio Rivadero–named Best New Chef for the Gulf Region by Food & Wine in 2012)–offered Pan-American fusion dishes, a daily happy hour and hand-crafted cocktails.
