Over the weekend Stephen Starr's latest South Florida concept, The Continental, opened for business at 2360 Collins Avenue adjacent to the newly open Aloft Hotel.
The restaurant is an ode to Starr's first restaurant, Continental Restaurant + Martini Bar in Philadelphia, which is celebrating 20 years in business this year.
Heading up the kitchen is Matthew Oetting, who most recently was executive chef of Starr’s Caffe Storico in New York City, but who is no stranger to South Florida heading up the kitchen at BLT Steak and the now closed Tosca prior to his work with Starr.
On the menu expect "shareable" dishes like build-your-own sushi, "vegetables on ice" (aka crudité) and burgers. Drinks were apparently a "driving force behind the success of the original Continental" and therefore will be a focus of the Miami Beach version of The Continental as well.
The 225-seat restaurant features "modernized throwback glamour" designed by Shawn Hausman Design. The Continental is now open for dinner, with lunch, breakfast and brunch coming soon. To make a reservation call 305-604-2000.
