Step Inside José Andrés’ Seafood Mecca, Bazaar Mar

Opening tonight

Baazar Mar
| Giovanny Gutierrez

Seafood is the star of José Andrés’ second Bazaar concept in Miami, Bazaar Mar, now open inside the newly opened SLS Brickell Hotel & Residences. As the name alludes, its menu focus will lean towards seafood served in his signature tapas style format. Think dishes like bacalao croquettes, sashimi, grilled whole fish, full raw bar offerings and for the more adventurous eater, offal seafood dishes like seared monkfish liver.

Like all his Bazaar spaces, this one was designed by Philippe Starck, featuring decor inspired by famous sea ports from Mykonos to the South Pacific. The white and blue color palette reigns supreme, with marble table tops and floors and handprinted tiles by artist Sergio Mora with whimsical designs — mermaids, unicorns, and even Andrés himself can all be spotted if you look closely — found all over the walls of the massive 7,200-square-foot, 210-seat restaurant. Helping keep the room well lit are large windows and lamp shades signed by friends of the restaurant.

Tucked away from the restaurant is an outpost of Bar Centro, featuring a variety of cocktails along with a Spanish dominated wine list, meant to pair well with seafood. The restaurant is now open nightly from Sunday to Thursday from 6 to 10:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 6 to midnight at 1300 South Miami Avenue. Call 305-615-5859 for more information.
