Stephen Starr & Justin Smillie’s Much Anticipated Upland Miami is Here

Second outpost for the popular NYC restaurant

Upland Miami

Restaurateur Stephen Starr shows no signs of slowing down, debuting his fifth concept in South Florida tonight, Upland, alongside famed chef Justin Smillie.

This marks the second location for the restaurant, which has its original outpost in New York City’s Gramercy neighborhood and is popular amongst critics and presidents alike.

Expect to find "California-inspired cuisine” on the menu, which is fitting as the restaurant is named for the southern California town where Smillie was raised. Mirroring its New York City counterpart, it features items like fresh pastas, pizzas, vegetables and wood-fired proteins. Think dishes like Little Gem Salad with avocado, cucumber, ricotta salata and walnut vinaigrette; Pappardelle with spicy sausage ragù; and Roasted Short Rib for Two with olives, walnuts, celery and horseradish. Naturally, a “voluminous” wine menu is also on hand.

The Miami location takes a design cue from the New York Upland as well, housed is a bistro-style setting complete with design elements like walls lined with wine and preserved lemons and artichokes — all aspects that can be found in the original location.

The restaurant is now open for dinner nightly at 49 Collins Avenue with lunch and brunch in the coming weeks. Call 305-662-9998 for more information.
