Two former Zuma alums have branched out on their own to create a "wood-fired Asian grill" eatery, KYU, opening tonight in Wynwood. Behind the restaurant is former Zuma executive chef Michael Lewis, along with general manager Steven Haigh, who was also most recently at the Asian powerhouse before venturing out to KYU.
The grill is the star of the show at KYU, with most of the menu centered around dishes prepared on it. Expect items like duck breast "Burnt Ends," wagyu beef brisket, Thai fried rice along with lighter options like hamachi and crispy spicy snapper tartare.
Taking over the former Shikany space, KYU features "elements of the neighborhood in with raw concrete, local art, and wood and metal," with the grill itself serving as the centerpiece inside the open kitchen. It also promises to enlist many "green" practices such as using a Orca waste composter and planting trees to compensate for those used by the wood charcoal grill.
