A Throwback 80s Lounge and Tropical Cocktails Created by Bar Lab Debut at The Anderson

The Broken Shaker guys are at it again

The Anderson

Consider The Anderson two bars in one. Taking over the former Magnum Lounge space at 709 NE 79th Street it’s a mash up of retro 80s lounge and tropical cocktail bar — and is the latest creation from the Bar Lab guys, Elad Zvi and Gabriel Orta, the masterminds behind the Broken Shaker and 27 Restaurant.

Inside the darkly lit lounge designed by Josh Wollowick, which is very reminiscent of its predecessor Magnum with the addition of animal print walls, it showcases a menu divided into two sections: new wave cocktails and originals. The originals are "forgotten classics" from the 80s and 90s like the Appletini, while new wave are the more unique Bar Lab cocktails that they have built their reputation on. As for food, the space tapped Vagabond’s executive chef Alex Chang to create a menu with new twists on traditional bar dishes like smokey queso dip, hot dogs topped with Japanese spicy sauce and beef rinds tossed in Cool Ranch Doritos seasoning.

Outside guests will find a completely different atmosphere with its colorful tropical themed outdoor cocktail bar, "The Shack," featuring a variety of rum-based drinks and rotating boozy slushies. Happy hour specials are also in the lineup with $10 cocktails, $4 beers, $7 specialty drinks and a $10 beer and a shot special.

The bar is now open Sunday through Wednesday from 5 p.m. to midnight; Thursday until 2 a.m. and Friday and Saturday until "the last guest leaves."
