Over the past week, bartenders and spirit professionals converged in New Orleans for the annual Tales of the Cocktail festival. The marquee event during this week long booze fest trade event is the Spirited Awards, regarded by many as the "Oscars" of the industry. During this year's event, Miami Beach's newcomer Sweet Liberty took home the award for "Best New American Cocktail Bar" beating out nine other bars from across the country in cities like New York, San Fran and L.A.
This is another feather in the cap of Miami's growing cocktail bar scene. Last year, one of Miami's OG cocktail spots, The Broken Shaker, took home the title of "Best Hotel Bar" during the awards ceremony, marking the first win for any bar program in the state of Florida.
The annual awards ceremony has been ongoing since 2007 and "has recognized the year’s best bars, bartenders, writers and experts," voted on by a panel of 100 "industry experts."
