Earlier this year, The Federal Food & Drink closed its door to make way for a new refreshed concept called The Fed, but just a little more than two months after the revamp the restaurant has decided to shut its doors over the past weekend and not renew the lease on the restaurant space.
"The rebrand was intentional in every sense – it was both to revive the brand, but also an effort to drive sales back into the restaurant. The way people were eating changed and we thought that was directly affecting our business," said co-owner Ani Meinhold, in a statement to Eater. "Unfortunately we didn’t see the uptick we were hoping for; this combined with our lease being up for renewal and the long awaiting opening of Phuc Yea just around the bend pushed us to make a conscious, but hard decision to not renew the lease."
The duo behind The Fed still plan to open up a permanent outpost of their pop up concept Phuc Yea later this year at 7326 Biscayne Boulevard.
