The brainchild of owners Aniece Meinhold and Cesar Zapata, the space is divided into three parts: an indoor main dining room, hotel lobby styled lounge and an outdoor patio. Décor in its new permanent space is certainly more grown up than its pop-up beginnings. It features a mash-up of mid-century modern decor, street art and traditional Asian accents. Every piece in the space was handpicked by Meinhold and Zapata, with some pieces even dating back more than 250 years, "everything in the restaurant has a previous life," Meinhold notes.
The restaurant tapped local artist Miguel Paredes to help create and curate the artwork throughout the restaurant. Think colorful street art murals decorating the walls along with numbers imprinted throughout representing different dates that are important to the owners.
The entrance to the restaurant features a lobby bar, which purposely was meant to feel like a lobby you'd encounter at a hotel. The space is anchored by a 15-foot raw bar, created with the intention of socializing, while the outside features a colorful outdoor patio, complete with the smoker from the duo’s previous restaurant, The Federal.
The restaurant’s menu stays true to its pop-up roots with Vietnamese and Cajun flavors remaining supreme. Menu favorites also make a comeback like Mamma T’s Imperial Rolls, Grilled Pork Riblets, Caramel Lobster and Caja China Cola Duck. But plenty of new additions have made their way onto Phuc Yea 2.0’s menu like traditional soups, small plates like mango and papaya salad and smoked beef tartare, along with an entire section dedicated to seafood boils where guests will be able to mix and match a sauce with their crustacean of choice.
Another thing the permanent restaurant features that its pop-up counterpart did not: a full bar menu with an extensive cocktail menu like its take on a classic milk punch, a Lychee Sour, a floral spin on a Cosmo, and more. Happy Hour specials and brunch will also begin in the upcoming weeks.
The restaurant is now softly open at 7100 Biscayne Boulevard, with its grand opening slated for September 9. Hours once open full will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., Friday from 11:30 a.m. to midnight, Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Happy hour is Thursday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., and brunch will be served Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
