James Beard Award-winning chef and restaurateur Michael Schwartz is opening a new location of perpetually popular Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink in Cleveland this spring his team announced yesterday.
Originally slated to be Genuine Pizza, the chef’s casual pizza mini-chain, the idea to take the space to the “next level” developed quickly during its buildout. However, this isn’t the first time Schwartz has opened a location of Michael’s Genuine outside of Miami, the restaurant originally did a five-year stint in the Cayman Islands that closed in 2015.
Michael’s Genuine debuted in the Miami Design District in 2007, and is credited for not only putting Schwartz — but also Miami — on the culinary map with its focus on seasonal ingredients as the inspiration of the menu. Schwartz went on to earn a James Beard in 2010 for for his work at the Michael’s Genuine and continued to grow his culinary empire to 10 restaurants and counting throughout South Florida and the Bahamas.
The Cleveland outpost of Michael’s Genuine is set to debut in April 2019 in the Van Aken District of Shaker Heights at 3427 Tuttle Road, Shaker Heights, Ohio.
