Waffle House fans — and there are many — get excited as the popular Southern chain finally debuts its first Miami-Dade location today at 2 p.m. The 24-hour diner chain, which has more than 2,000 locations but never one in Miami, officially opens at 19675 NW Second Avenue in Miami Gardens.
According to the Miami New Times, the restaurant hired 50 employees for this new location and plans to stay open around the clock when it makes its debut.
The beloved chain has built a following over its 63 years in business for its no-frills atmosphere, cheap pricing, and late-night dining. The restaurant is even known to be an indicator of just how bad a natural disaster like a hurricane is, with FEMA using an informal “Waffle House Index” to gauge the severity of the storm. A green indicates that the stores in the area are all up and running, while a red indicates the Waffles Houses are closed and, well, things aren’t looking too good.
