A First Look Inside Root & Bone’s Permanent South Miami Outpost

The southern-inspired eatery is the latest restaurant from Jeff McInnis, Janine Booth and Grove Bay Hospitality Group

Fried chicken slinging New York City favorite, Root & Bone, has officially debuted its permanent South Florida outpost in South Miami (5958 South Dixie Hwy). The brainchild of chef partners/restaurateurs Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth, the duo behind Stiltsville Fish Bar on Miami Beach, they have once again teamed up with Grove Bay Hospitality Group for their latest eatery.

Root & Bone, which has its popular albiet sometimes swirled in controversy location in Manhattan, first made its way to South Florida as a pop-up inside the Shelborne Hotel. It was a hit and now has made a permanent home in Miami.

The southern-inspired menu boasts plenty of the same options of its predecessor like the aforementioned sweet tea brined fried chicken that’s lemon dusted and served with honey tabasco sauce, shrimp and grits, lobster pappardelle, macaroni and cheese, and cast iron seared yellowtail snapper. Its weekend brunch menu keeps with the decadent feel offering items like banana cream pie waffles, chicken biscuits, and a brunch burger made with chuck, brisket, short rib, pork belly bacon, sunny side egg, pimento cheese, and tomato jam.

The 120 seat, indoor/outdoor, space was designed in part by Booth and features Southern-inspired accents of distressed wood, exposed concrete, plush booths, and a bar made from reclaimed doors topped with a matte black quartz slab.

The restaurant is now open Sunday through Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m. Happy Hour is available daily from 4 to 7 p.m. and weekend brunch is offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. For more information call 786-785-1001.
