The group that brought to life nightlife favorite El Patio is increasing its presence in Wynwood with its latest outpost, MAYAMI Mexicantina & Bar (127 NW 23rd Street) a 10,000-square-foot Mexican-inspired indoor and outdoor restaurant and lounge that’s now open in the artsy neighborhood.
Led by executive chef Juan Carlos Flores, formerly at Brickell’s Cantina La Veinte and Coral Gables’ Plomo Tequila & Taco Bar, Mayami serves unique Mexican-inspired dishes like guacalote made with avocado, corn, and queso fresco; beef tartar al pastor; tacos filled with ingredients like chicken tinga, salmon carnitas, sashimi, and pork adobo; ceviches; alongside larger dishes like whole branzino and filet mignon.
The meal can be paired with creative cocktails using Mexican ingredients like the Blood Moon made with Patron Reposado, Chinola maracuya liqueur, and peanut and pear syrup and the Maya Colada with Grey Goose, avocado juice, pineapple juice, coconut cream, and shredded coconut; along with insect-infused Mezcal shots such as the Escorpion Real made with scorpions and spices and the Noisy Cricket made with crickets and peach.
The 200-seat eatery is lined with stone sculptures, wood accents and carvings, stairs and traditional mural paintings, with the space featuring a ziggurat-shaped ceiling replicating the inside of a Mayan Pyramid. The space will keep the nightlife feel of El Patio, featuring an expansive pyramid-shaped bar in the center of the room, multi-level terrazas, surrounded by trees, stages, and numerous VIP booths.
Located adjacent to Mayami is My F***ing Way Chelas & Tacos (MF*W), a counter-service taqueria scheduled to open in mid-November that will sell grab-and-go options like tacos with “an enormous list of toppings” and beers.
Mayami is now open for dinner and happy hour Wednesday to Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight and Saturday and Sunday from 4 p.m. to midnight with happy hour offered Wednesday to Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.
